Though a native to the Midwest, I have always felt drawn to the sea—an allure that stemmed from childhood trips to the coast. Along with learning about Hemingway through my father, his tale of an old man battling elements beyond him, and the truth that we know more about foreign planets than our own, sea life and its encompassing mystery have ever fascinated me. My current collection deals with the relationship between land and sea, whether hostile or dependent, and…

HUE Gallery, 430 South Commerce, Suite 200
Wichita, KS 67202 United States

Jan Weiss of Art Plant describes Cary’s work: “Dark and creepy but intriguing and somewhat mystical. Maybe carrying thoughts of the underworld and what happens and the solitude of that space that no one really knows about but they sometimes feel it – in a dark corner…or just around a building where you can’t see it but it feels ominous? That’s how I feel when viewing the work of Josey Cary. There is something around the corner and I hesitate…

In the moment that I noticed it, maybe for the first time, I was struck by the realization that the spots of colored light bouncing around the room were coming from a clear glass ornament dangling from the window lock. Rainbows materialized magically out of a state of colorless-ness. I cannot remember exactly how old I was, and I cannot express the exact thought, but a great sense of mystery took root in my life at that moment. A deep…

Wichita, KS 67202 United States
+ Google Map

In Deming’s work she focuses on an exploration of when fantasy merges with reality, and the coexistence of the conscious and subconscious mind. She is inspired by dreams, myths/archetypes, and mysticism, as well as the experience of the female identity and representing empowerment through surrealism. She initially started with collage; converging found images from paintings, magazines, books, and historical sources. She was interested in transforming unconnected images into seamless surrealist portraits of female divinity. Through the exploration of writing and…

My work primarily operates on tension, fluctuating between the implication of balance and disharmony. I strive to guide, rather than dictate, how a narrative may be constructed. Reduction plays a significant role in the creation of my paintings, as they are conceived through the amalgamation of a surplus of concepts. In many ways, my technique parallels how I react to perceptions in my day to day life… My assessment of stimuli is conflicted by erratic lines of logical thought and…

Solo Exhibition by James Petrucci

October 27 - November 18
HUE Gallery, 430 South Commerce, Suite 200
Wichita, KS 67202 United States
+ Google Map

The main theme present through out all of James’ work is that of passing of time and how it affects this temporary space we all occupy. Everything that makes up our world is in a constant state of flux - ever changing. This finite amount of time defines and gives meaning to true beauty. The landscapes are inspired by fleeting moments and layered memories. A culmination of mental snapshots and the residual feelings left behind. His figurative work embraces the…
