Ashley G. Garner’s Æsthesia – Opening Reception @ HUE Gallery of Contemporary Art
Apr 3 @ 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Ashley G. Garner is bringing her full-sensory immersive exhibition, ÆSTHESIA to Wichita!!

By Ashley G. Garner
Audio by Aluria
Production Assistance by Alex Jaramillo, Nicole Absher, Christopher Brosius, Tessa Liebman, Not Impossible, and Ben Cawiezell

ÆSTHESIA is a multi-sensory body of work that explores the therapeutic benefits of nature through sight, sound, scent, and taste.
Studies have proven that when we spend 3-5 minutes simply looking at an image of nature, hearing their sounds, or smelling their aroma’s, blood pressure begins to lower, muscle tension relaxes, anxiety is alleviated and has shown to lead to shorter hospital stays, lower needs for medication, and help with depression.
Can experiencing specific plants on different sensory levels such as sight, sound, scent, and taste, have other physiological healing benefits? Do different plants heal us in different ways – such as the sound of Daisies, the sight of an Orchid, or the scent of a Morning Glory? If these different sensory experiences of each plant are combined, what would happen? This is what ÆSTHESIA explores through the lens of different plants, first beginning with six of the most commonly used flowers in the medicinal community: Lavender, Chamomile, Tiger Lily, Marigold, Wild Rose, and Echinacea.

This will be an exhibition that Wichita has never experienced before. I won’t spoil it with details, you will need to come to experience it in it’s grand nature!

We are also planning on hosting Ashley to teach a workshop about the photography and video side of the project, so that you could do it yourself, as well! I will post the details for this as soon as they are set in stone.

Laser Art Photography by Lewie Wilkinson – Opening Reception @ HUE Gallery of Contemporary Art
May 1 @ 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm

This month we are hosting a new kind of art, laser art! Laser Art Photography by Lewie Wilkinson. I have never experienced something as majestic as what he photographs! Lewie builds the lasers and arrange them with mirrors / prisms / optics – then photograph the result! His photography will be hung throughout the gallery and projection mapped videos of his work will also be on display. It’s something you have to be there to experience…

—-

But, guess what! We are bringing him here all the way from Indianapolis, Indiana to do a live build out as a workshop, to go alongside this exhibition! Details coming soon on the date of the workshop.
